1. Who we are

Palate ("we", "us", or "our") is an iOS application developed and operated by PalateDev. If you have any questions about this Privacy Policy, you can contact us at hello@palate.vin.

2. What information we collect

We collect the following types of information when you use Palate:

Account information

• Your name and email address when you create an account
• If you sign in with Apple, we receive a verified email address (or Apple's private relay address if you choose to hide your email)
• Your password is encrypted and never stored in plain text

Wine and preference data

• Wines you scan, add to your cellar, or rate
• Your flavour preferences and palate profile (tannin, acidity, body, fruit, finish)
• Your preferred wine styles, regions, and budget range set during onboarding
• Star ratings and tasting notes you add

Usage data

• Wines you discover and interact with in the app
• Points and rewards activity
• Subscription status

Camera

• When you scan a wine label, your camera captures an image. This image is sent to our AI provider (Anthropic) to identify the wine. Images are not stored by us or Anthropic beyond the duration of the request.

3. How we use your information

We use the information we collect to:

• Provide and personalise the Palate experience
• Identify wines from label scans using AI vision
• Build and improve your personal palate profile and match score
• Generate personalised wine recommendations
• Process subscription payments via the App Store
• Respond to support requests sent to hello@palate.vin
• Improve the app and fix bugs

4. How we share your information

We do not sell your personal data. We share data only with the following service providers, solely to operate the app:

• Supabase — our database and authentication provider. Stores your account and wine data securely. Data is hosted in Australia (ap-southeast-2).
• Anthropic — processes wine label images and generates sommelier analysis. Images and label text are sent per-request and not retained.
• Apple — handles App Store payments and, if used, Sign In with Apple authentication.
• RevenueCat — manages subscription state and purchase verification.
• Commission Factory — affiliate tracking when you tap "Find a Retailer" links. Only a click identifier is shared, not your personal details.

5. Wine data shared with other users

Palate maintains a shared wine database. When you scan a wine that has not been seen before, the analysis result (tasting notes, flavour profile, grape report) is stored and shared with all users who scan the same wine in future. This data is not personally identifiable — it contains no information about you, only about the wine.

6. Data retention

We retain your account and wine data for as long as your account is active. You can delete your account at any time from the Profile screen inside the app. When you delete your account, all personal data associated with it is permanently removed from our systems within 30 days.

7. Your rights

You have the right to:

• Access the personal data we hold about you
• Correct inaccurate data
• Delete your account and all associated data
• Export your data (contact us at hello@palate.vin)

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at hello@palate.vin or use the Delete Account option in the app.

8. Children's privacy

Palate is not directed at children under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

9. Advertising

Free tier users may see ads provided by Google AdMob after scanning a wine. AdMob may use device identifiers in accordance with Google's privacy policy. Pro subscribers do not see ads. You can upgrade to Pro at any time from the Profile screen.

10. Security

We take reasonable technical measures to protect your data, including encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS), encrypted password storage, and row-level security on our database. No system is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy. For significant changes, we will notify you within the app.
